Palace on Wheels Train Palace On Wheels is a train that ranks amongst the top ten luxury trains in the world. The name of the train is quite apt as it really takes you back to the royal bygone era of palaces and luxuries. The train was named so because of the royal background of its coaches. The coaches that once played host to the erstwhile Kings and Maharajas were taken over by the State government and railway department. The air-conditioned broad gauges new train replaced the existing ones. Rajasthan Palace On Wheels now has 14 saloons, 2 restaurants cum kitchen cars, one Bar cum Lounge and 4 service Cars. There is also a comfortable lounge, a library and a bar. Palace On Wheels luxury train takes you on a complete tour of Rajasthan in just seven days. All the 14 saloons of the train are named after the different cities of Rajasthan. The names of the saloons are Jaipur, Jodhpur, Alwar, Bundi, Kota, Jhalawar, Dungarpur, Dholpur, Bharatpur, Jaisalmer, Sirohi, Bikaner, Udaipur and Kishangarh. The traditional look of the saloons has been complemented with all contemporary amenities of daily life. Apart from the 4 cabins connected with bath and shower, you will also get a Khidmatgar (personal attendant) attached to your salon. Then, there are the two dining cars in the train that are designed in a true Rajasthani style. Palace on Wheels has two restaurants cum kitchen cars offering the traditional Indian food, along with Continental and Chinese cuisine. The bar is well stocked with both the Indian liquor as well as a variety of scotch, wine and cocktails. There you can also get souvenirs and gift items bearing the insignia of the POW in the souvenirs shop "The Bazaar". There are a number of other services also that you will get on request. These include laundry services, barbershop, beauty parlor and Doctor on call at each station. Heritage on Wheels Heritage On Wheels is a luxury train designed on the line of the famous "Palace on Wheels". However, unlike the Palace On Wheels, this train takes you those small cities of Rajasthan that have not been given due appreciation. It takes you on a tour of cities like Bikaner, Shekhawati, Gajner, Nawalgarh, Mandawa and Ramgarh twice a week from Jaipur. A joint venture of the Rajasthan Tourism Development Corporation and Indian Railways, Rajasthan Heritage on Wheels runs on the meter gauge. Moving across the previously unexplored regions of the state, it brings you closer to its true spirit. Heritage On Wheels of Rajasthan, India combines the culture of the state with all the modern luxuries. It consists of 14 saloons; each designed keeping in mind the heritage of Rajasthan. There are two restaurants, named as the Maharaja and the Maharani. Other facilities provided in the train include a well stocked Bar cum Lounge, Kitchen and service cars. The food serves consists of a number of cuisines, apart from the traditional Rajasthani food. Fairy Queen Train The Fairy Queen train was rolled out for the first time, for East Indian Railway, in the year 1855. The engine of the Fairy Queen train is the oldest working engine in the world. Considering the heritage importance of the Fairy Queen, it has been started again, once a month, from October to February. The Fairy Queen train relives the history, culture and heritage of the places, which fall in its way. Taking 50 passengers, from around the world, the Fairy Queen train tour is a journey of lifetime, from Delhi to Alwar. The train stops at every major destination and the ambience inside the fairy Queen makes you feel like a Maharaja as you take on the royal journey. The Fairy Queen reaches the picturesque town of Alwar in Rajasthan the same day, from where you are taken to the Sariska Tiger Reserve for an overnight stay.
