Hawa Mahal one of the most elegant specimens of the Rajasthan monument is constructed by Maharaja Sawai Pratap Singh in the year 1799 AD. The mahal also known as a Palace of the Wind is a magnum opus of Rajput artistry. This 5 story imposing structural splendor is constructed in red and pink sandstone and is remarkably embellished with leitmotif painted in quick lime. Rajasthan is the royal state dotted with many massive forts, palaces and temples, which are popular for their architecture and design. The vast network of Museums in Rajasthan form the most popular archaeological sites, and the recently opened museums and art galleries in the palaces of former rulers of old states help to preserve this great heritage of the state of Rajasthan. Jantar Mantar of Jaipur is one of the five astronomical observatories built by Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II in the year 1728. There is a story behind this observatory also. The Maharaja, ruler of Ajmer and founder of Jaipur, was a scholarly man interested in the workings of the celestial bodies.
