Jaipur, The Pink City of Rajasthan
was founded by one of the greatest rulers of the Kachhawaha clan, the astronomer king Sawai Jai Singh in 1727 AD. The pink color was used at the time of construction of buildings to create an impression of red sandstone buildings, repainted in 1876 during the visit of the Prince of Wales. The city of Jaipur has everything be it forts, palaces, hotels and gardens. The red sandstones used in the monuments capture your eyes at first instance.

» Jaipur History
Built by the warrior-astronomer Raja Sawai Jai Singh II in 1727, Jaipur is replete with impressive forts, captivating palaces and gorgeous temples. The city is listed in most of the tourist guides as one of the three cities, which compose India's Golden Triangle - the other two being Delhi and Agra. The old city of Jaipur has straight broad avenues and is divided into nine chokris or sectors. The two main blocks consist of the royal palace and official buildings that are out of bounds to the common people. An enormous wall with seven gates embraces the old city of Jaipur and the most outstanding thing about Jaipur is the fact that the construction of the complete city was accomplished within a period of 8 years. After 43 years of prosperous reign, Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh of Jaipur passed away and then started an ugly political strife for succession to the royal throne.

» Tourist Attractions in Jaipur
Hawa Mahal: Built by the poet king Sawai Pratap Singh, the Hawa Mahal is the most stunningly designed monument in Jaipur. From the Sireh Deorhi Bazaar is visible the five storey high backside of the complex. It was envisaged to provide adequate vantage position behind dainty stone carved jali screens of the palace, which women used to see the royal processions passing through the bazaar below.

Jantar Mantar: The Jantar Mantar or the royal observatory is a wonderfully planned medieval astronomical center, adorned with sundials and huge astronomical instruments. Built by Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II, who was an accomplished astronomer himself, Jantar Mantar derives its name from the Sanskrit terms ‘Yantra’ and ‘Mantra’, which literally mean instruments and formulas.

City Palace: The City Palace is a historic landmark. The City Palace proffers an impressive mélange of traditional Rajasthani and Mughal art and architecture. The City Palace premises accommodate several palatial structures. The first building in it is Mubarak Mahal, built by Kaharaja Madho Singh, which possesses a brilliantly carved marble gate with heavy brass doors on either side of this gate. Beyond this gate lies the Diwan-e-Khas, or the "Hall of Private Audience". Grey-white marble columns decked with floral patterns in gold and colored stones support the intricately carved arches.

Nahargarh Fort,Jaipur Travel Tours,Rajasthan Holiday TourNahargarh Fort:
Constructed in 1734 by Sawai Jai Singh to strengthen Jaipur's security, the Nahargarh Fort holds immense strategic and historical importance. The imposing Nahargarh fort nestled on a sandstone hillock just beyond the Jaigarh Fort served as a military sentinel that safeguarded the royal kingdom of Amber. The term Nahargarh literally means "the abode of tiger". This however might not have been the reason behind naming the fort. The local people of Jaipur believe in an legend which propounds that the fort was named after a deceased prince Nahar Singh, whose spirit apparently haunted the construction site till the builders agreed to name the fort after him. Whether true or not, the legend definitely adds spice and intrigue to the Nahargarh Fort tours.

Jaigarh Fort: The substantial Jaigarh Fort in Jaipur was constructed solely to reinforce the military defense of the breathtaking Amber Fort. Though simple in design and décor, the Jaigarh Fort served its military purpose quite efficiently. The enormous crenellated wall that borders the Jaigarh Fort is surrounded by a deep moat that used to be filled with water in the medieval ages.
