Eklingji Temple Eklingji Temple
lies cuddled in the town of Eklingji (Kailashpuri), 22 km north of Udaipur, on the national highway no. 8. The place Eklingi (Kailashpuri) derives its name from the temple.
Eklingji Temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva. Shiva is worshipped here as a four faced black marble image depicting his four different forms. The four faces represent Brahma (facing west), Vishnu (facing North), Rudra (facing South) and Surya (Sun) (facing the east). In the center of these images is the Shivlinga, encircled by a silver snake. The temple houses the whole family of Lord Shiva, including Parvatiji (wife of Shiva) and Ganeshji (son of Shiva).The flat crest of the compound idol is enclosed with a Yantra (a mystic symbolic drawing representing the ultimate reality). Shiva here is worshipped as the Ultimate Reality, the supreme power, and the wholesome one - Parabhrama. This temple is said to have been founded by Acharya Viswaroopa a contemporary of Adi Sankaracharya. Eklingji temple of Udaipur also contains the statues of Yamuna and Saraswati. The temple has silver doors depicting Lord Ganesha and Lord Kartikeya. The architectural plan of the Eklingji temple reminds you of the Jain temples of Gujarat. The existing structure dates back to the 15th century and is built out of the ruins of a formerly ruined construction. Eklingji Shiva temple Udaipur is an extensive complex consisting of 108 temples. The temple occupies an area of about 2500 sq. feet and is about 65 feet in height. The western side of the temple welcomes visitors into a big hall supported by licentiously engraved pillars. The interiors of the hall include a silver image of Nandi, besides other adornments. There are two more Nandis within the temple premise, one made of black stone and the other of brass. Wrapping the temple are strong high walls with bathing terraces leading down to the water.Located adjacent to Eklingji Shiva temple, are the temples of Amba Mata, Ganeshji and Kalika. These temples also possess carvings which portray nymphs in erotic dance demeanor and a life size image of Bapparawal. » How to Reach By Road: Udaipur is connected by good roads with various cities and towns of Rajasthan.
