To witness its history and perspective is just like stepping back into the ancient time. This splendid town of Bundi is located 36 km from Kota and lies 206 km far from Jaipur. The city dwell near a narrow gorge, and is surrounded by the Aravalli Ranges from three sides. A substantial wall with four gateways encircles the beauty of this remarkable city. In the center of the township lies a mesmerizing lake and a medieval fortress that stand tough on the ravages of time.

Bundi is admired for its baolis (step wells), palaces as well as water tanks. The monuments of this place and their structural design portray the magnificence of the erstwhile local Rajput chiefs. Amongst the Forts and Palaces in Bundi, a leading name is that of Bundi Palace, Bundi. The Bundi Palace, Bundi, Rajasthan, India is situated adjacent to the Taragarh Fort. This outstanding palace, built during the 16th and 17th centuries. It is classic Rajasthani architecture. Only part of the palace is open to the public.

Adjacent to the fort and past the bazaar, a wooden gate leads to the beautiful Bundi Palace. The palace is entered through the Hathi Pole (Elephant Gate) into a small courtyard. You then come to the Ratan Daulat, the Diwan-i-am (Hall of Public Audience), where there is a marble throne. The highlight of this palace is the beautiful murals that carry the spectators back into the time of Bundi royalty. Chitrashala is a part of the Bundi Palace and consists of an art gallery or pavilion that exhibits miniature colorful murals depicting scenes from the Ragmala and Raaslila-the story of Radha-Krishna. The murals cover almost entire palace walls. For visiting other areas, special permission needs to be obtained from the secretary of the Maharaja of Bundi. Photography is not allowed otherwise Bundi palace, illuminated with lights during night, presents a glowing beauty to be captured on camera.
