Kumbhalgarh Fort

Kumbhalgarh Fort,Rajasthan Majestic Forts Tour

Located 64 kms north of Udaipur, Kumbhalgarh is the second most important fortress after Chittorgarh in the Mewar region. This massive fort has battlements extending 5 km from east towards the west and plunks 304 meters above the city and 595 meters above the sea level.
Historians suggest that Mughal Emperor Babar spent a night at this fort, captured the hidden treasures and gifted them to his son, Humayun. Akbar's son, Jahangir had also lodged here for some time during his exile in a place now called Salim Mahal.

In 1775 A.D Maharaja Pratap Singh finally annexed the fort. The Kumbhalgarh fort is a dominating structure with 15 large and 51 small towers coupled with 446 openings for musketry and 8 huge towers encircling it for defense purpose. The fort has several gates - Jai Pol, Suraj Pol, Laxman Pol,Chand Pol, Kishan Pol and Andheri Gate. It also possesses the vestiges of Jal Mahal, Nikumbh Mahal, Salim Sagar, Suraj Kund and also many temples.

The Fort is also acclaimed for its 'Badal Mahal' (the Palace of Clouds) at the apex of the structure. This picturesque palace is replete with beautiful rooms enmeshed in wonderful colors of green, turquoise and white presenting a bright contrast to the earthy colors of exteriors of the Fort. The Kumbhalgarh fort also gets qualified as the birthplace of the great combatant Maharana Pratap.
