Jaigarh Fort

Jaigarh Fort,Rajasthan Forts TourJaigarh Fort is located on the top of the hill, by the name of Cheel ka Teela (Hill of Eagles). Situated around 15kms from Jaipur the Jaigarh Fort was built in 1726 by Sawai Jai Singh II. It stands balanced on a precipice delimited by enormous parapets with secret tunnels and walkways. Jaigarh fort also has several palaces, temples which include the 10th century temple of Ram Harihar and the 12th century temple of Kal Bhairav, tall towers, gardens, a huge granary and above all well-planned cannon.

The Jaigarh fort warrants acknowledgment for its gigantic cannon-the Jain Ban (Jaivan) the largest armory in the world which includes a large collection of swords and other weapons. Jaigarh Fort also preserves this unique military configuration of medieval India with immense pride. Snuggled in the north of Jaipur, this fort resembles the Amber Fort in terms of its structure. This fort which stands above the Amber Palace was never seized and therefore lies intact. The watchtower offers a scintillating vista of the locale including Amber and its bordering areas. The central courtyard consists of three vast underground water tanks, one used by prisoners for bathing, one as storage for gold and other jewels and the third which lies empty.
